The Light Vehicle Beginner course at YDA is designed for individuals with little to no driving experience who wish to obtain their driving license. This program combines in-depth theoretical training with extensive practical sessions to ensure a strong foundation in road safety, traffic rules, and vehicle handling. Trainees can choose between manual and automatic transmission options, learning essential driving techniques under various road conditions. With expert guidance, modern vehicles, and a structured curriculum, this course not only prepares you to pass the driving test but also to drive confidently and responsibly on UAE roads.

Eye Test

Go to any optical center that appears in the TAMM app, or an Abu Dhabi Police happiness center. Bring your Emirates ID. The center uploads the result directly, so you do not need paperwork. If you wear glasses or lenses, keep them on during the test.

Open a Traffic file

Log in to tamm.abudhabi or use the TAMM mobile app to start the service “Open a traffic file”. Choose the vehicle category (Light Vehicle Auto/Manual, Motorcycle, Heavy Truck) and follow the on‑screen prompts. Pay the government file‑opening fee online (about AED 200).

Theoretical Training

Theoretical sessions cover three key areas—driver mindset, road rules, and vehicle basics. You can learn at your own pace via e-learning, join scheduled classroom classes, or use on-site tablet-equipped halls for flexible access.

Practical Training

The practical training starts with vehicle basics and progresses to advanced maneuvers and parking, all within the YDA premises. Sessions must be booked in advance.

Simulator Training

Simulator training includes three 20-minute sessions to build confidence by practicing real-life driving scenarios in a safe, controlled environment. Advance booking is required.

External Road Training

After passing your practical exam, you must complete training on public roads. Minimum 6 hours of driving on actual public roads with an instructor approved by the Licensing Department.

Final Road Test

Take the final road test with the Licensing Department. Pass it and you're officially licensed!
